MACH Health
A mobile health and wellbeing app for nurses to manage stress, prevent burnout, and support their overall wellbeing.
Nurses are burning out. Since COVID-19, more than 75,000 nurses have left the profession in Australia alone, with over 20,000 in a single year. Long shifts, emotional strain and relentless pressure have pushed over 75% primary care nurses to report feeling exhausted and stressed at work. Globally, the crisis is escalating. If nothing changes, Australia will be short 70,000 nurses and the world up to 13 million by 2035.
Mark Carter, a veteran nurse and healthcare executive, has witnessed and personally experienced the health and wellbeing challenges in nursing. Drawing on 22 years of frontline and leadership experience across Australia, Asia and the UK, and a passion to create a positive change within the healthcare system, he set out to tackle this urgent challenge. Mark aims to empower nurses to thrive by prioritising their wellbeing first.
Using Cogniss, Mark built MACH Health, a mobile app designed to help nurses manage stress and avoid burnout. The first version of the app was built in just 12 days without writing any code. Unlike traditional Employee Assistance Programs that often step in too late, MACH Health focuses on prevention by promoting daily wellbeing practices and early intervention before a crisis hits. The app focuses on four crucial, interconnected pillars: emotional health, physical health, nutrition and sleep.

“I’m not tech-enabled, but I want to be an innovator,” Mark said. “Cogniss has helped me stretch my thinking and expand what I believed was possible. As an app creator, I’ve been able to build a solution that meets my data needs and brings my purpose to life. I didn’t need to be a tech expert to start creating meaningful change.”
MACH Health is now live on the Google Play Store and has begun testing with early users in Australia and the UK. It’s a powerful example of how a passionate domain expert can build a tailored app on Cogniss to tackle critical healthcare challenges and start making a real impact.
